Jane Ayre by Charlotte Bronte is a nice film for children to see and is free to watch on Youtube, as are many period films. This film not only includes love, empathy and character discernment but also lots of lovely period costumes and interiors to enjoy. It also teaches children what love really is: devotion to someone despite their flaws and not some impossible idea of perfection.

Despite Jane Ayre being aimed at adults, it's also perfectly suitable for children as it's full of good behaviour, apart from a few scenes of the mad woman in the attic, but these are nothing compared to what is often in 12A Hollywood movies!
