The film is based on 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' by author Emma Orczy and is set during the 'Reign of Terror' during the start of the French Revolution.
The film is based on a the Scarlet Pimpernel, a gallant character who has devoted his life to saving as many French aristocrats before they are killed by the Republicans. He masquerades in many disguises to fool the enemy but is also a brilliant fencer. There is a true love story too and children certainly need to see what true love is if they will ever aim for it in the future.
It's long....2hrs 20mins...but we were gripped from beginning to end. These long and nail biting films, I feel, have helped my daughter to focus on something for a long time. Always push their limits.
We both loved this film and I think we might watch it again and again.
