The Lady and the Highwayman is a great film about a royalist trying to do his bit against the Republicans just before the reinstatement of Charles II. This film is about honour, loyalty and love.

The film had everything....period costumes, beautiful buildings and gardens, old music, true love, intrigue and a nail biting ending. There is a scary scene at the end but nothing I didn't see when I was young and watching films set in the 17th century. There is a good contrast between the two main female characters, one being very decent and the other being extremely manipulative, jealous and conniving.

This film is more for children aged from about eight onwards as it's quite long with a plot that requires some concentration. My ten year old daughter managed very well though and didn't ask any questions, which amazed me. That might have been because it was such a good film she never looked away from the screen!
